As the peace impulse project is growing, I invite you to be inspired by my work of
Webwatching and dive in the archives of your neighbourhood to retell the stories of
those who were unlawfully expelled or maybe even tragically killed, because if we
honor the ancestors of a place and we create an event to reconcile with the past
we can find new friends and empathy for ourselves and the other, and maybe even a
shared peaceful future where stories are heard, held and embraced. As this project
is part of my academic journey, as a PhD student in reconciliation studies, I have
written an Essay on why I believe human catastrophes like the holocaust and the
nakba should be deconstructed, by everyday people and little ceremonies should be
organised. So we can repair the brother and sisterhood that once was.
The Key of the peace impulse is that through research of the history
of the tragedy of the other, with which we have lost contact, we can re-establish
connection, look into the roles that our ancestors played, and heal our stories
together, in the here and now. The moral imperative is that if you help restore
the roots and stories of the other, you are able to regain peace and self-worth
and become an agent of peace in your community.
To join find this Platform and start your own web of interdependence and become part
of the peace impulse. Yours sincerely, Simon van den Berg.
